Congressman John Lewis Addresses the Ward IV Community Meeting at College Park Public Safety Complex

Georgia's 5th District Congressman John Lewis addressed the Ward IV community meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at the College Park Public Safety complex.  A standing room only gathering enjoyed the congressman's reminiscing of the long road to the man he has become today.

The welcoming of Congressman Lewis was a poignant moment of irony.  Pamela Stoner-Gay, wife of Ward IV Councilman Roderick Gay, first presented Congressman Lewis with a plaque, and upon her introduction of Lewis, she added that her father - Dr. Peter Stoner, was indeed one of the Freedom Riders who had worked alongside Lewis. It was apparent that Lewis was moved by the introduction.

Congressman Lewis freely discussed his early life, including the amazing story of how his sharecropper father acquired 110 acres of land for $300 dollars; land that would later become cotton, corn and peanut fields. Lewis then elaborated on the civil rights movement, relating to some of today's events and how the country has progressed over the years.

Public Works, Police and Information Technology/Customer Service Directors also presented fact sheets and updates to city operations.

The meeting concluded shortly before 8:30pm, followed by a reception in the Public Safety Complex lobby. For access to photos from the event, click the link below.
