Dangerous Dog Ordinance
Message to College Park citizens
On April 4th, 2011 during the meeting of the Mayor and Council for the city of College Park, the Council amended the city’s municipal codes regarding potentially dangerous dogs. (sec 4-21 through 4-26)

The Council action included additional provisions to ensure pet safety and responsible pet ownership. Additional amendments include: tethering restrictions, maintaining sanitary conditions, proper transport in open truck beds, and pet rescue to remove animals locked or trapped in vehicles on hot days.

The amended ordinance went into effect on July 1st, 2011. Owners of potentially dangerous dogs must register their dogs with the City Clerk’s office in accordance with City Ordinance Section 4-25(a): The owner of a dangerous dog or a potentially dangerous dog must secure a certificate of registration in accordance with the provision s O.C.G.A. 4-8-25, and obtain from the City and place upon the dog a special identification tag. Pet owners are also required to place an identification microchip in those pets and show proof of the implant in order to complete the registration form.

The code was established in 1989, and is applicable to residents of the City of College Park. Unincorporated areas of south Fulton and north Clayton counties are not affected by this action.
