ATLANTA – The Atlanta Dream hosted a special clinic to honor National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) on February 5 at the Tracey Wyatt Recreation Complex in College Park, Ga. Young athletes from the Atlanta area learned new skills from Dream Head Coach Nicki Collen, Assistant Coach Darius Taylor and guard Renee Montgomery.

“What a great turnout and facility,” Collen said. “Anytime you can have wood floors and that many baskets, that many kids. They got the most out of their experience. Just getting them in, being active, that’s what we want them to stay in sports whether it’s basketball or something else.”

National Girls and Women in Sports Day is celebrated annually during the first of week of February and recognizes the accomplishments of female athletes. The day honors the impact sports participation has on women and girls and honors the progress of women in sports.

“It’s always good to see when you have a clinic like this how many people show up,” Taylor said. “The fact that they showed up really shows they have a true interest in basketball, and hopefully that continues beyond where they are now. I like to see the kids have fun and enjoy the sport, and like I said hopefully those young ladies will continue to play and support basketball.”
