Honoring Richard D. Zupp - A Dedicated Servant for the City of College Park

Lorene & Richard Zupp

Mr. Richard D. Zupp passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at the age of 90.  Mr. Zupp, a resident of College Park since 1949, was a distinguished and passionate community leader who worked tirelessly and unselfishly for the betterment of his community through volunteering countless hours for his time in the City of College Park Recreation
Department.

Mr. Zupp was the Chairman of the Recreation Advisory Board since 1964 where he coached numerous men, women and youth athletic teams.

In 1992, Zupp Park was dedicated in his honor.  He was instrumental in the football and baseball program for the Recreation & Cultural Arts Department, and would typically be on hand to celebrate opening day for little-league baseball.  Zupp also served as grand marshal for College Park's annual Christmas parade.

He was loved and will be missed deeply by his friends, colleagues and family.  Richard Zupp was preceded in death by his wife - Lorene Wiley Zupp, who passed away in 2010.

Throughout his lifetime, he was known as "Paw Paw" by most employees in the Recreation Department and within the local community. Service arrangements will be announced soon.
