College Park Mayor Celebrates Georgia Reads Day with Ribbon Cutting for Community-Decorated Bookshelf
Ceremony spotlights the Mayor’s Reading Club and the city’s ongoing commitment to youth literacy and community engagement
COLLEGE PARK, GA (September 22, 2025) – Mayor Bianca Motley Broom invites the community to join her for a special ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, September 22, from 4:00-5:00 PM at College Park City Hall in celebration of Georgia Reads Day. 
The event will officially unveil a new community-decorated bookshelf that serves as both a community book-sharing resource and inspiring visual centerpiece for the Mayor's Reading Club literacy initiative.The installation will be permanently housed in the City Hall lobby, making books accessible to all College Park children.
"Literacy is the foundation of opportunity," said Mayor Motley Broom. "This beautiful bookshelf represents our community's investment in our children's futures and demonstrates the power of youth leadership. When our own children help create the resources that will inspire reading, we show them they have a voice in shaping their community."

The ribbon cutting ceremony is part of College Park's participation in the Mayor's Reading Club program. The statewide initiative, launched by GeorgiaForward, addresses Georgia's critical literacy challenge. According to GeorgiaForward, currently, 68% of fourth graders do not read proficiently, with far-reaching consequences for health, education, and economic outcomes. The Mayor's Reading Club program promotes partnerships between the city, county, local nonprofits, schools, libraries, and the business community.
