Flooding

Special Flood Hazard Area
College Park engineers alert citizens to flood safety and property damage prevention. Regions of College Park lie in what is called the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA).

The SFHA is an area that can be expected to experience flooding on a statistical average of one or more times during a 100-year period. Put another way, properties within the SFHA have at least a 1% chance of being flooded in a given year.

100-Year Floodplain
Within the 100-year floodplain, flooding becomes more frequent the closer you get to the drainage channel. Therefore, your particular property may experience flooding much more frequently than once in a 100-year period depending on its elevation and proximity to creeks or rivers.
