FIREWORKS SAFETY TIPS

TIPS FOR FIREWORKS USE IN GEORGIA

Not all fireworks are legal for possession, use or sale in FireworksGeorgia. The best way to ensure that you purchase fireworks that are legal for use in Georgia is to buy them in the State of Georgia.

If you have to leave the state to find them, the probability of them being illegal for use in Georgia is very high.

Additionally if the fireworks fly, fire a projectile, make a loud explosion, or do anything more than emit a shower of sparks they are most likely illegal in the State of Georgia.

When in doubt......... don't buy them, possessing them is as illegal as shooting them off!

GRILLING SAFETY TIPS FOR APARTMENTS AND RESIDENCES

  • Always keep children and pets a safe distance from all grills - create a safe area around your grill.
  • DO NOT try to move a hot or recently used grill. Allow it cool for several hours first.
  • DO NOT discard charcoal immediately after cooking. LET THEM COOL FIRST! Charcoal can stay hot enough to ignite combustible materials for several days after use.
  • DO dispose of charcoal after allowing to cool in a METAL CONTAINER.
  • All grills should be attended at all times during their operation.
  • NEVER use gas or charcoal grills indoors. The carbon monoxide produced from grills can cause serious health issues to you and your family.
  • Keep grills clean by removing grease and fat build-up from the grills and catch tray below the grill.
  • Keep starter/lighter fluid away from children and pets. Store in a safe place and away from open flames such as gas water heaters.
  • NEVER add starter/lighter fluids or any other flammable liquids directly to the fire.
  • Place grills away from combustible structures like siding, wood patios, balconies and flower planters and other vegetation.

COLLEGE PARK PROHIBITS THE USE OF GRILLS IN APARTMENTS
(In accordance with 2006 International Fire Code requirements for multi-family dwellings)

  • Propane tanks exceeding 2.5lbs gas capacity may not be used or stored in apartment buildings or on patios or balconies of apartment buildings.
  • Open-flame grills may NOT be used indoors.

Property owners, managers, and tenants are responsible for ensuring that grills are being used in accordance with these requirements. Upon complaints of code violations, the College Fire Marshal or local law enforcement may cite one or more responsible parties for the same violation.

Code violations can result in a FINE of up to $1,000 and/or 6 months in JAIL.
